Of course, Maria Grazia Chiuri, the first female artistic director to take the helm at Christian Dior is leading a new powerful moment. The Dior Lady Art project, which invites artists to exclusively custom-design the coveted Lady Dior handbag, has carefully selected an all-female collective of eleven artists.
Chiuri poignantly noted her debut collection of Spring 2017 with a literary nod to Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her essay, titled ‘We Should All Be Feminist,’ which Chiuri emblazoned on a t-shirt. For Spring 2018, the first outfit to hit the runway, styled with a striped t-shirt read, ‘Why have there been no great women artists? But the question is not why but where? So as the old adage reflects, ‘third time is truly a charm’, Chiuri follows up with an answer to that very question with a coterie of female artists that enamour the contemporary art market.
