Three things that I obsess over (other than McQueen) are orchids, Marc Quinn and Dior handbags – of which, I can never have enough. So when I read that Quinn’s latest project involved Lady Dior and orchids I almost fainted!
Back in 2012, Dior launched a Lady Dior collection with artist Anselm Reyle, which of course I was fascinated with, but Quinn and orchids… well, swoon away!
Quinn’s works of art with orchids didn’t just happen overnight, his obsession of these Phalaenopsis blooms over the last twenty years has created a floral abundance of significant sculptures and vivid oil paintings.
From oversized bronze sculptures painted in white, red or an array of colours, photorealist explosive-colored blooms painted in oil on canvas, to intricate treasures styled on the arm of one lucky shopper. A personal acquisition of the iconic Lady Dior handbag embellished by Marc Quinn would equate to the perfect purchase of fashion and art.
Indeed, this is not Quinn’s first fashion collaboration—my other obsession, McQueen, and creative director Sarah Burton decorated the runway for the Spring 2015 collection with a white bronze orchid sculpture.
The collection of 10-pieces includes five Lady Dior bags, featuring a mini silver metallic embossed calfskin, an iris-inspired bag from the ‘We Share Our Chemistry with the Stars’ series and smaller accessories such as cardholders and pouches. The Dior Marc Quinn Collaboration is available at the new House of Dior boutique at 160-162 New Bond Street, London—I know where I will be visiting this summer. J’adore Dior.com
