I just received the July Issue of W Magazine, and the Puerto Rican beauty Joan Smalls graces the cover in statuesque, supermodel-style. I wish the ‘90s Supermodel era would return, long gone are the days when we wished we looked like Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer, Tatjana Patitz and Cindy Crawford, think George Michael video, Freedom, and Herb Ritts photo, Supermodels—Smalls is definitely supermodel worthy.
As always you can rely on Karl Lagerfeld to be amused with the latest, great beauty, and in March as Smalls strutted her exotic demeanour down the runway for the Fendi Fall 2012 show, Lagerfeld decided that look #44 was perfect for the Fendi Fall campaign.
When you think about Italy, many images come to mind, but in true Italian style Lagerfeld conjured up the essence of Fendi, choosing the hills of the Chianti region as the backdrop for the shoot. Lady Amanda Harlech and stylist Charlotte Stockdale shot the campaign with Karl on a vineyard outside of Florence amidst olive and cypress trees—the result, a perfectly poised portrait of Italian style.
