Architectural design, glamorous interiors and beauty from within—three very different people, three very different books, yet each one shares the same desire—to create the perfect home.
Since I am currently obsessed with anything to do with architecture, interiors and creating a beautiful home (my husband and I are currently renovating a mid-century modern ranch, so more to come on that later), this home selection of coffee table hardcovers is apt in every way. I’ve met two of the authors, the lovely Jan Showers is every inch as elegant as you would imagine, and Aerin Lauder is sweet, sassy and supremely sophisticated. Alas, I’ve never met Mr. Ando who is the subject of admiration for author Philip Jodidio.
Modern, glamorous and beautiful, these three books will certainly inspire your domicile desires.
Tadao Ando: Houses by Philip Jodidio, Rizzoli New York, Sept 2013. Ando is the most renowned architect on the planet—winning all five prestigious architectural accolades, and Forth Worth stands proud with the marvelous Modern Art Museum—a spectacular commercial Ando masterpiece. However, this book focuses purely on Ando’s residential repertoire, a sizeable selection of projects from across the globe, that features two new homes both complete this year and pages of unpublished works. The book also includes a foreword by Tadao Ando. Available in hardcover, price: $115.00.
Glamorous Retreats by Jan Showers, Abrams, Oct 2013. Bachelor Gulch, Palm Beach, Harbour Island, and Nantucket—all fine locations for a luxurious retreat. Interior designer Jan Showers follows the successful Glamorous Rooms book with a second volume titled: Glamorous Retreats. Luxury, glamour and a relaxed lifestyle inspire the glossy pages with over 200 unpublished photographs featuring clients from the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Blending Hollywood glam, mid-century modern and classic 18th century French styles into a perfect peaceful habitat. Available in hardcover, price: $50.00
Beauty at Home by Aerin Lauder, Random House, Oct 2013. Blessed with good taste and the knowledge of beauty, Aerin Lauder has coalesced her expertise into a lavish lexicon of personal style and living beautifully. Beauty at Home showcases Lauders design aesthetic from the family Manhattan abode, the family escape in the Hamptons and her sleek, chic Madison Avenue office. Entertaining tips and inspiration on art collecting pose between these glossy photographs shot by fashion and portrait photographer Simon Upton.
