FGI Dallas Announces 2012 Fashion & Lifestyle Awards Night of Stars

As Co-Chair for the Fashion Group International of Dallas Fashion & Lifestyle Awards “Night of Stars,” for the second year, of course, I am going to talk about what an amazing event this is. The Fashion & Lifestyle Award gala is the only event in Dallas that recognises both local businesses and supports education and talent in Dallas, within fashion and lifestyle industries. So, if you’re not familiar with FGI, Career Day or the Fashion & Lifestyle Awards—then let me share.

Fashion Group International of Dallas hosts Career Day every year and this year signified the inaugural selection for the winner of the Shelly Musselman Fashion Design Award. In April five fashion students: Mfon Ogbonna from Houston Community College; Cassandra Bumpous, from University of North Texas; Kim Pham, from University of North Texas; Bao Tran, from University of North Texas; and Katrina Raz, from University of Texas at Austin, were selected by Brian Bolke, co-founder of the boutique Forty Five Ten to participate in the final selection for this very generous award.

The lucky winner will be announced during the Fashion & Lifestyle Awards “Night of Stars” gala in November, and will receive the $10,000 Shelly Musselman Fashion Design Award, mentorship from Mr Bolke, and will produce a capsule collection sponsored by Forty Five Ten, that will be featured on the runway during the event.  Now if that doesn’t get you all excited to attend the event, then you’re reading the wrong blog.

Frosty Fashion At Sprinkles Cupcake Wars

If I see another cupcake it will be too soon, well, only if I have to frost and decorate it—eating one is another matter entirely. This past Saturday, I had the amusing task of frosting and decorating one hundred Sprinkles cupcakes, but all in the name of charity—for the Sprinkles Cupcakes Big D’s “Big News” Cupcake Wars.

My chosen charity was Fashion Group International of Dallas, my goal to raise funds for Career Day, 2012. This annual event provides educational outreach programs to students seeking careers in the fashion and lifestyle industries and awards local talent with over $35,000 in scholarships funds.  Since Dallas lists such fashionable business as Neiman Marcus, J.C. Penny, and Fossil, to name only a few—it seems a worthy cause indeed to support local education.
