Run for the Roses: Derby Day at Lee Park

Copious amounts of champagne overflowed at the Veuve Clicquot bar on the terrace of Arlington Hall to celebrate Derby Day at Lee Park in May.  The philanthropic professionals at Lee Park Junior Conservancy certainly know how to great dressed every year for the annual Day at the Races—this year themed “Run for the Roses” was a tribute to honorary chair Caroline Rose Hunt.

Men arrived in dapper suits and donned hats and bowties, and the ladies looked lovely in summer dresses and hats of all proportions, especially fascinating fascinators. I attended as a “Best Hat” judge, along with my fellow judge cohorts Blake Stephenson, Rachael Abrams, and Cynthia Smoot, and mingled through the crowd critiquing each stylish ensemble.

Summertime Spa’ness at Equinox

I am addicted to the song Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Ray, so I had to add my little ditty’ness to the title—a perfect summer soundtrack!

With summer comes, the joys of vacation, the sun, travelling, oh and heat—especially if you’re staying at home in Dallas.  This July the Spa at Equinox Highland Park has launched the Equinox Blueberry Regenerating Facial—perfect for hydrating hot tired skin. I haven’t tried it yet, but since I’m a member at the Preston Hollow location I might have to venture south to Oak Lawn for a little facial sustenance.

The Sessions & Emily Wolfe Rock Hotel ZaZa

Last week, Hotel ZaZa and The Sessions hosted SXSW indie musician Emily Wolfe poolside at a private listening lounge. The Sessions partners CJ Vinson and Lauren Bucherie created the Austin-based production company to fuel their passion for the music industry by discovering emerging talent, and Miss Wolfe, their current protégé certainly tantalized guest.

Little Black Dress Designers Win Fashion Design Scholarships

The challenge—to reinvent the iconic, classic, little black dress, and the winners: five lucky students. The House of Blues, set a stylish tone on Wednesday, May 22nd as LBDD founder Jeff Shell and his team produced the Dallas edition of Texas’ largest fashion design competition—Little Black Dress Designer.

Presented by Audi, the evening commenced with a well-edited short film showcased on the backdrop of the runway, that featured students, judges and the selection process of choosing five lucky winners from the ten students that participated—filmed at Hotel Adolphus on April 8.

Success at the 45th Annual Fashion Group International of Dallas Career Day

Did you know, every year Fashion Group International of Dallas hosts the longest running and largest fashion career event of its kind in the country? This year on April 12 over 1,200 students from more than 44 colleges and universities across 12 states, participated in the Fashion Group International of Dallas, 45th Annual Career Day to compete for scholarships of over $40,000.

The 2013 co-chairs Rosanne HartMarilyn Stewart and Rhonda Sargent Chambers worked tirelessly all year, and the event was a huge success thanks to presenting sponsor J.C. Penney and the scholarships sponsors that awarded the deserving students. The daylong event, after months of planning, and preparing by all, ended with a runway fashion show finale that showcased performances by students from the Dallas Black Dance Theatre and honoured the winning students—produced by RSC Productions.

Dior Boutique Opens at Highland Park Village

Last Friday, champagne bubbles overflowed, white orchids softly scented the four salons and guests nibbled perfectly sized hors d’oeuvres served by the lovely Lisa Garza as guests—back from spring break, celebrated the opening of the Dior boutique in Highland Park Village.

Honoring the Dallas Museum of Art Ball 2013 committee chairs: Jennifer Karol and Catherine Rose hosted guests at the boutique and at the temporary gallery space, showcasing the Dior Couture Patrick Demarchelier exhibition.
