With London and New York flagships established and an L.A. boutique on Rodeo Drive coming this May, this well-heeled Brit is adding humour to our soles, one step at a time. If you adore Ms Dellal like I do then read my short and sweet Q&A…

Charlotte-Olympia - Colette

Charlotte Olympia – Colette

Max: A shoe epiphany! What was the inspiration that launched your shoe collection?

CD: I’ve always wanted to design fashion, but it was in my foundation year that I discovered that I wanted to specialise in footwear and went on to do a degree at Cordwainers in London.

Max: Humour has been an attribute to your designs. What is your favourite style to date that epitomises Charlotte Olympia?

CD: Every season epitomises the essence of the brand, which is feminine, colourful and with a sense of humour.  The Kitty flat is a strong representation of the brand’s sense of fun and is in the ‘Encore’ collection; it’s delicate, feminine and a little cheeky, like a cat.

Max: Spring 2013—tell me about your inspiration behind the current season, and what are your favourite styles from shoes and accessories?

CD: Spring/Summer 13 is called ‘La Vie en Rose’—it is a romantic and cliché view of Paris from the boudoir to the Eiffel Tower. This spring, I will be wearing ‘Colette’, my take on a Marabou feathered boudoir slipper featuring a poodle head accessory on the toe, and the ‘Ooh La La’ crochet flats.

Max: Do you have any future plans for collaboration?

CD: I’ve collaborated with Olympia Le Tan on a limited edition of bags for Fall 2013 ’Once upon a Time.’

Max: What music are you listening to at the moment?

CD: I love Brazilian music; Marisa Monte and Maria Gadu are favorites.
