OMG! And I’m not kidding; that’s the reaction I uttered under my breath when I slipped on a gold bracelet by Parisian, London-based jewellery designer Raphaele Canot. Not merely an emphatic statement of admiration, but also the title of Canot’s collection—OMG!
The symbol of a pair of lips set in an open-mouth style is a witty yet whimsical design offered in gold, or with red, black and white enamel, trimmed with Pavé diamonds. OMG!, bracelets, rings—single or stacked, and a necklace that doubles as a ring, play well with her collection Keep Smiling, more lips, this time a tad more pouty that just makes you smile.
I don’t often find jewellery that resonates perfectly with my jewellery requisite—delicate and understated, subtle whimsy, and pieces for every day with small gems that fit proportionately with my no-lobes, super small ears… and voila, an abundance of petite, perfect pieces, pour Moi! The eponymous line steps away from traditional settings, and Canot has cleverly mastered the art of delicacy in diamonds. Known for her Set Free Diamonds, the collection name speaks for itself, solitaire diamonds that hang eloquently, free from any traditional setting. I fell in love with the black diamond pendant. Très chic!
I had the pleasure of spending time with Canot last month, while she was visiting Dallas for a trunk show at Ylang 23 along with jewellery designer Yannis Sergakis, both in Dallas for their first personal appearance this side of the pond. I will add that Canot is the embodiment of French chic, with a serious jewellery design career to boot. With tenure’s at Cartier, working on collections such as the Panthère de Cartier, and designing with diamonds at De Beers, Canot’s experience equates to the epitome of exquisitely crafted jewellery designs.
