Nikki Duong Koenig, founder of Dallas-based handbag and accessories brand Cykochik designs socially responsible products, using eco and animal friendly materials such as vegan leather, and is a proud member of PETA. A cool chick with a good, honest ideology—now why wouldn’t you want to support that?
Koenig launched Cykochik, in 2003 when she created handmade bags from her SMU dorm room. Since then she has collaborated with local artists, artisans and art patrons merging accessory design with art.
In celebration of her 10-year anniversary, the latest collection titled: Artist Series 3 :: 10-Year Anniversary Collection, will utilize Kickstarter, a funding platform for creative projects, to raise $10,000 in 30 days—no small feat.
The Kickstarter campaign launched last Friday, March 8: International Women’s Day, and collaborates with local Dallas artist Kevin Obregon a sculptor, painter and muralist featuring his art-inspired designs on vegan bags and laptop sleeves.
The funding campaign has already reached $2,300 with 15 backers. Koenig plans to use the funds on materials, production and allow her to focus 100% on her vision. And, what does Cykochik mean? “Cykochik derives from the words, “cycle” and “chick” because I believe that everything in life has a cycle and our actions affect everything around us,” informs Nikki Duong Koenig, can’t argue with that.
