It’s officially sweater weather, with chilly breezes blustering away beckoning the need for the cosy comfort of sweaters. No excuse to wear a basic knit this winter; sweaters are styled in an array of exaggerated design, from flared sleeves to oversized, asymmetrical styles with perhaps your favourite animal emblazoned on the front.
A red carpet stretched towards the Art Deco façade of Texas’ historic Hall of State at Fair Park for the star-studded arrival of Fashion Group International of Dallas’ annual Night of Stars honorees and guests.
Every year this event sparkles with talent and the 2017 rendition early November at the Hall of State continued to dazzle. Thanks to FGI Dallas board members and co-chairs Heidi Dillon and Britt Harless, with the ever-dapper honorary chair Chuck Steelman, and FGI Dallas regional director Ken Weber.
As the adage quips, one man’s rubbish may be another man’s treasure, for Burberry and Elvis & Kresse, this statement rings true as they embark on a five-year partnership recycling leather waste from Burberry factories.
Fashion and sustainability are a neoteric duo, embracing fast fashion and luxury brands as an ethically minded consciousness that questions our wardrobe selection. In these conscientious times, wearing fur is indeed outdated and it’s finally possible to banish the need for real fur styles. Technically speaking I am a Goddess, and who doesn’t want to be a goddess! But the title of Goddess is the term used for fundraisers of Project Athena Foundation. A non-profit organization that helps women survivors of a medical setback achieve their inner Athena—recovery through training to participate in an endurance adventure.
At the end of August, I will check-off my bucket list a hike across the Grand Canyon, thanks to the 16-week training schedule and the supportive coaches at Project Athena. On August 28 I will hike from the South Rim to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon—a 24-mile hike in one day starting at 1 am until we finish.
Viva Arte Viva, the theme for Venice Biennale 2017, and the reason for my first trip to Venice. The lagoon city, a maze of waterways and narrow cobbled paths is enchanting, to say the least—but this visit was extra special, coinciding with an art tour curated by Dallas Contemporary.
The water taxi docked at Palazzo Venart just after midnight, and beneath the moonlight, the Grand Canal and garden entrance to the hotel looked hauntingly spectacular. The once Venetian palace, Palazzo Bacchini della Palme, recently renovated into a five-star hotel would be home for the next five nights. I arrived in Venice ready for a Monday morning kick-off, along with an art posse from Dallas for pre-opening activities of the Biennale.
In the heat of the summer, wearing bright colours in sartorial splendour is perfectly apropos, but add a stripe to the mix, and your personal style is more sublime. There’s an abundance of beach styles and summer accessories in bright stripes, or subtle blue and white stripes—too many to choose from, but here are a few of my favourite styles.
